DIG PH - BLOG 11


Blog 11: Due Wednesday, Apr 11th – 
1. Answer: What makes a photograph more than just a snapshot picture? 
2. Find a link to a photojournalist that shows a great example of photojournalism. 
3. Why did you enjoy it (if applicable - the trip to the Zoo)?
 Aaron Taylor goes Jackson Pollock on his canvas as he experiences the Abstract Expressionism technique of splattering paint. Pollock was innovative in the controlled dripping. "I wanted to do the same idea to feel what the artist felt during the creation process," says Taylor as he completes his painting located at the Kentucky Wesleyan College painting studio in Owensboro, KY.

    This photograph is more than a snapshot because it is deliberate. In my opinion, a snapshot is taken on a whim, but this photo is attempting to capture a specific moment in time.
    http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ The link I posted is to National Geographic--a magazine that, in my opinion--really solidified what photojournalism was and is today.

    1. A photograph is more than just a snapshot because it is a moment that is intentionally set up as opposed to a candid atmosphere.

    2. http://fadedandblurred.com/spotlight/annie-leibovitz/. I posted a link to Annie Leibovitz's photography. I'm not sure if she's classified as a "photojournalist" but I love her photographs and I think she sets up her shots in a really beautiful and different way.

    1. A photo is planned whereas a snapshot is for memories, etc. A snapshot isn't meant to be artistic.
    2.http://news.discovery.com/. Discovery News has great photojournalism and much of what they do is related to science so I enjoy it and they have photos of places/animals that you wouldn't otherwise see.

    A photo is a professional work of art. It tells a story, creates a narrative in and of itself.
    A snapshot however describes itself in its name, "snap" shot. It is something done quickly with no forethought. I love deviant art. There is a little of everything there, but it is good stuff! http://alireza1.deviantart.com/gallery
