Blog 4: Due Wednesday, Feb. 15th –Write 2 paragraphs about the Digital Darkroom process.
1. How did you manipulate or edit your Egg Photo?
2. Define your Light Source, contrast, and value.

  1. 1. I used levels to manipulate the images and create a higher contrast. In my opinion, adjusting levels gives the best and most subtle result versus adjusting contrast on its own.
    2. I used a raw lightbulb as a source. I experimented with back lighting as well as direct lighting, but I feel the back lighting provided a better sense of contrast against the black toile. There is an extreme sense of value between the white of the egg and the black of the fabric that I think is very interesting.

  2. 1. I used levels, curves, and photo filters to edit the egg photos. I like to manipulate the lighting to add depth to the shadows and contrast to the image.

    2. I used both natural light and artificial light sources. There is contrast and value between the egg and the different types of lighting and the values are evident by the shadows created.

  3. 1. After a long time staring at my egg I was frustrated and started to scratch my face. I realized I needed to shave and it made me think my egg should shave too. I drew a face on the egg and gave him a 5 o'clock shadow. After that I just put it in the bathroom next to a razor and shaving cream.
    2. I made sure the lighting was how I picture men's college dorms to be. The lighting was kind of warm and dim. Good value but the the contrast between the white egg and the cream colored desk was not good. My bad.

  4. 1. For each shot I used different angles to capture various lighting, shadows, and backgrounds. I also used different depths of view and settings for each photo.
    2. In order to find the best lighting I used multiple settings until I found that best one. I took photos both outside and inside. My focus was mostly on the location of my egg. I manipulated my background more than my lighting. Originally I used a white egg which had high contrast and often looked overexposed. My second egg was a brown egg which worked better with the lighting and gave a better overall value.

  5. In some of my pictures I used a flash to compare the differences in the color. I preferred most without flash. The outside photos I did outside in the morning so the light wouldn't be bright and I didn't use a flash. It took a few tries to get the shot with the egg in my dog's mouth and certain poses. The shots with the egg on the pile of wood and the tractor I just used different angles and sometimes flash. When I edited photos I just cropped them I didn't want to change the color or lighting of what they already were.

  6. 1. I just decided to shoot random pictures. My favorite one would have to be the one on the golf tee. I honestly didn't have any sort of plan. I was just walking around my house looking for props and came up with a couple different ideas.
2.I took my picture on the tee outside during the evening to give it a warm natural light. On the ones that I took inside I just took the lights that were provided in my bathroom.

  7. In my egg shots I had some trouble coming up with clever ideas for the egg. I just put mine in some life situations to try to make it life like. Like its not really an egg but a person. I didn't edit my pictures or anything but I think I got some pretty good lighting in my shots. The lighting I have is in the evening time around dusk because that is my favorite lighting of the daylight. I really had fun doing this assignment and I look forward to the next.
