Dig Photo Blog 2

Blog 2 paragraphs:
1. Why did you chose the location of your Series Shoot?  Did the light change the feel?
2. Define how the composition flows and the framing. Define mood, time, and light.

  1. 1. I chose my location because of the relevance cupola has to the school. It's become a major symbol, and I wanted to use it to show the differences in lighting. Unfortunately, overcast weather dampened the effect the lighting had on the shoot.
    2. I used a strong, asymmetrical composition for the shot. To me, centering any subject is boring, so I go to lengths to dramatize composition from one side or another. Mood is the feeling you capture at a particular moment, time is the specific instance, and light--in photography--is how much natural light and flash are let in through the lens at a particular moment.

  2. 1. I chose my location while I was at home in Louisville for the weekend. There is an awesome break in the trees from my back porch, and it happens to be the only break in the trees. I have used this location before for photos at sunset. The sun sets almost flush with the dip in the tree-line. The lighting was not too bad that day. I got lucky! The sky was clear, blue with big fluffy clouds. The clouds varied with the time of day.

    2. I did my best to line the shot up nearly centered every time with the empty sky taking up the whole center of the photo. I wanted the light and sky being the focal point.

  3. I chose my location (on the ground looking up a tree) because I wanted to get a different perspective; similar to how nature can tower over you.

I took time to make sure each shot was almost 100% lined up with one another, using the branches in the tree to create a flow for the viewers eye to follow. It's got almost a cold feel to it, since the sky is an almost "blank" icy color, and the tree without leaves, the light just emphasizes the effect as the day progresses.

  4. 1.I chose my location because of its industrial, as well as country look. I have seen this location at dusk before and knew it was a dramatic change from daytime. The light changed drastically throughout the day with the sun shinning on the powerplant in the morning and sinking behind it in the afternoon.
    2. I framed the photo to include both the foreground and the powerplant in the background to draw your eyes in and out of the photo.

  5. 1. I chose the location because I am drawn to areas that are deteriorating and slightly grungy. The yellow concrete and road sign add a pop of color to the shot and I find it really striking. Unfortunately, the lighting is mostly cloudy and I'm disappointed that there wasn't a stronger difference in the feel of the photos.

    2. I usually prefer to frame things from a side perspective, but because of the sign and the yellow concrete blocks being a focal point, I think the photographs were better suited for a centered composition and frame. In photography, mood is best defined by the initial reaction that a person has when they first see a picture. Timing can sometimes be everything when it comes to photography and I think it's important to be aware of your surroundings and capture a moment in its truest form. Lighting can make or break a photo and I think it's the most important element in creating the mood of a photograph.

  6. 1. I chose my location because when you come to KWC there is one image that you keep on seeing on everything from walking around campus to the letterhead our school uses in the mail. This is the coopula and you see it pretty much everyday as a student on this campus.

    2. The framing of my photos was not quite centered it was a little to the side, I liked that better than it being directly in the center of my picture. The mood of my pictures was very pleasant in the morning and the afternoon shot because of the very good lighting. The noon shots lighting messed it up as the sun was directly on top of the picture. Overall I am not sure how the pictures are going to turn out because I haven't put them on the computer yet.

  7. I chose this area because it is a view I see everyday. It is part of everyday life out in the country. The clutter is symbolic of the chaos in my life. I wanted a form of balance so I used the barn and the trees as my frames. The morning picture I took early morning because I liked the colors of the sky. The early afternoon was just there because I needed it, not because I chose it. The evening I chose the timing again because of the colors in the sky. Other than the noon picture, my pictures didn't have much lighting. I think the lack of lighting of morning and evening are what made them more interesting.

  8. 1. I chose the location of the front lawn in front of the administration building because it is what I have seen everyday for the last 3 years. It is the first thing that I saw when I arrived to campus in August 2009 and it will be the last thing I see when I leave.
    2. The light did kind of change the feeling of the picture in the evening. It the morning it was bright, but the evening picture was dark and made it look haunted. I made sure that the frame had a few trees in it to give it balance on each side.
